The Aisne-Marne American Cemetery

The Aisne-Marne American Cemetery lies below the hill containing Belleau Wood where a lot of American soldiers lost their lives during the Battle on June 1918.

The French government granted use of this land, in perpetuity as a permanent burial ground without charge or taxes.

The Chapel: this Romanesque style memorial has been built on the front lines occupied by the 2nd Division during the battle on June 1918.

In this Chapel you may read on the walls the names of 1,060 American soldiers missing in the area.

The plantings: 328 plane trees and nearly 4,000 rosebushes border the graves areas and the main alley.
