In the footsteps of the Battle of Belleau Wood
A guided tour will allow your group to retrace the footsteps of the Battle of Belleau Wood which took place on June 1918 and which opposed the US Marines to Germans. This intense fighting came to an end with the victory of the US Marines which marked the history of the Marines Corps as their first victory abroad.
Since then the wood was lent to the Americans for life by the French in gratitude; it is now called “Wood of the Marines’ Brigade”.
In memory of these deeds an aircraft carrier takes the name of USS Belleau Wood during the Pacific War. As well from 1953 to 1960 under French flag it will be the Belleau Wood. Then a helicopter carrier will be also named the Belleau Wood.
